New on Netflix: All the Movies and TV Coming in February

2020 has only just begun to fly by, but that’s exactly what it’s already doing. We’re staring down the barrel of February, which at least has the common courtesy not to show up empty-handed, bringing along with it a fresh crop of Netflix film and television offerings (and a 29th day to boot, since 2020 is a leap year). Our guided tour of the streamer’s list of new additions begins now.

Netflix’s incoming films are of particular interest, with one especially notable feature on the way: Good Time (Feb. 11), the acclaimed 2017 film from Uncut Gems masterminds Josh and Benny Safdie. The white-knuckle crime-thriller stars Robert Pattinson (never better) as Connie, a New York City hustler scrambling to free his developmentally disabled brother (Benny Safdie) from jail after a bank robbery gone wrong. The exhilarating result is one of 2017’s best movies, so whether you’re new to the Safdies, a day-one fan or looking for more after loving Uncut Gems, don’t sleep on this one. Good Time is just one of a couple dozen standout titles arriving on Netflix in February—many of those land on the first of the month, including Ridley Scott’s definitive Blade Runner: The Final Cut, hard-boiled Clint Eastwood vehicle Dirty Harry, devastating Holocaust drama The Pianist, sci-fi/comedy crowd-pleaser Back to the Future Part III (you’ll have to catch the first two elsewhere), classic World War II blockbuster The Dirty Dozen, Prince’s Purple Rain, beloved Ryan Gosling/Rachel McAdams romance The Notebook, 1989 Oscar winner (and Green Book precursor) Driving Miss Daisy, Adam McKay’s Will Ferrell/Mark Wahlberg buddy-cop comedy The Other Guys and seven Police Academy movies, from the 1984 original to 1994’s Mission to Moscow. There’s plenty more to follow, like Netflix original documentary The Pharmacist (Feb. 5), Alison Brie-starring Netflix psychological thriller Horse Girl (Feb. 7), an unspecified version of Anna Karenina (Feb. 12), the sequel to Netflix’s hit rom-com To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before, To All the Boys: P.S. I Still Love You (Feb. 12), stop-motion-animated Aardman feature A Shaun the Sheep Movie: Farmageddon (Feb. 14), Paul Verhoeven’s sci-fi satire masterwork Starship Troopers (Feb. 15), the highest-rated (on Rotten Tomatoes, at least) videogame movie of all time in The Angry Birds Movie 2 (Feb. 27) and Cameron Crowe’s iconic Jerry Maguire (Feb. 29), among others.

What of the small screen, you ask? Netflix is also making some much-anticipated additions in TV and comedy, with both original and licensed titles soon making their way to its library. The foremost standout is all but certainly Locke & Key (Feb. 7), the long-awaited TV adaptation of Joe Hill and Gabriel Rodriguez’s best-selling IDW comic book series from Carlton Cuse (Lost, Bates Motel) and Meredith Averill (The Haunting of Hill House), which finally found a home at Netflix after bouncing around for years. Billed as “a coming-of-age mystery about love, loss and the unshakable bonds that define family,” Locke & Key follows the three Locke siblings and their mother, who move into their ancestral home, Keyhouse, after the mysterious murder of their father, only to find the house is full of magical keys that may be connected to his death. As the Locke children explore the keys and their powers, a mysterious demon awakens who will stop at nothing to steal them. Also buzzworthy is the second season of Altered Carbon (Feb. 27), the cyberpunk sci-fi drama in which human bodies (or “sleeves”) are interchangeable, starring Anthony Mackie as the latest iteration of its hero, elite interstellar warrior Takeshi Kovacs. There’s plenty more to come later on, including Tom Papa’s debut Netflix stand-up special You’re Doing Great! (Feb. 4), manga-based anime series Cagaster of an Insect Cage (Feb. 6), Season 4 of AMC’s acclaimed Breaking Bad prequel Better Call Saul (Feb. 9), Season 2 of Netflix drug trade drama Narcos: Mexico (Feb. 13), the final season of Netflix’s first Spanish-language drama Cable Girls (Feb. 14) and the first season of Sophia Lillis-starring Charles Forsman graphic novel adaptation I Am Not Okay With This (Feb. 26), to name a few.

Don’t overlook what’s leaving Netflix in February, either: Clouds of Sils Maria (Feb. 11), District 9 (Feb. 14), Milk (Feb. 15), Gangs of New York (Feb. 19), Lincoln (Feb. 20), The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (Feb. 21), Trainspotting (Feb. 28), Stripes (Feb. 29), American Beauty (Feb. 29), Hustle & Flow (Feb. 29), Rachel Getting Married (Feb. 29) The Taking of Pelham 123 (Feb. 29), Up in the Air (Feb. 29) and The Matrix trilogy (Feb. 29) are all on their way out next month. Be glad you at least have an extra day before they disappear!
