James Corden, Ilana Glazer Join EmojiMovie Voice Cast

Movies News EmojiMovie

The emoji movie is still happening, and now it has assembled even more talent. It was announced today that James Corden of The Late Late Show and Ilana Glazer of Broad City have joined the film’s voice cast alongside T.J. Miller (Silicon Valley), who was already set to take on the lead role.

Miller plays Gene, an emoji who has a wide range of facial expressions, which is unusual for emojis living in Textopolis. In his desperation to be more normal, Gene sets out on an “app-venture” across the world to find the code necessary to fix him. Corden will voice Hi-5, Gene’s best friend, and Glazer will voice the code breaker Jailbreak.

“Hi-5 is a high-five emoji who is a highly motivated, and highly dramatic, hand on a mission (sorry), and the brilliantly versatile, ebullient, and always lovable James Corden fits this part like a glove (sorry again),” said director and repentant cliché user Anthony Leondis (Igor ) in a statement. “For the rebel ‘break all the codes’ computer programmer emoji Jailbreak, Ilana Glazer is the kind of singularly free-spirited, fearless and funny actress to make girls really feel the empowered ‘nobody’s gonna keep me in a cage’ attitude this character exudes.”

EmojiMovie is only the latest in a long line of animated works for Corden, who also lent his voice to the forthcoming animated film Trolls. EmojiMovie: Express Yourself hits theaters on Aug. 11, 2017.
