Singer-songwriter and producer James Blake posted a new video detailing his thoughts on his recent album, Assume Form. The video, titled Assume Form: A Short Film, showcases Blake’s skills behind the piano as he plays a live rendition of the album’s title track. Directed by Babak Khoshnoud, the short film is artfully shot in Blake’s typical avant-garde style.
In between verses, interview footage with Blake is played, during which he describes the emotional process of recording the album. Blake says:
I definitely don’t always feel melancholy, although my music might suggest that I do. The biggest thing that unsettled me, maybe, was the comparison to the alias I had created. The performer, and the person. You assume that people want a certain thing from you, and you realize that if you are just yourself, people—the right people—will accept you.
