Jenny Hval, the Oslo-based artist behind, most recently, 2019’s The Practice of Love and 2016’s Blood Bitch, has shared a new track, “Bonus Material.”
Hval recently discussed the ethereal song, writing, “It is an unfinished track about unfinished substances leaking into one another. Trash practicing love,” per a press statement.
Espen Reinertsen, a Norwegian saxophonist, producer and flutist, plays sax on the haunting “Bonus Material.”
The appropriately titled track was a remainder from Hval’s time recording The Practice of Love, per Stereogum.
Hval was previously scheduled for an American tour this month, heading to a slate of shows in Chicago, Los Angeles, Brooklyn, San Francisco and elsewhere, but postponed them due to coronavirus.
On Friday, March 13, Hval officially announced the decision to postpone, writing, “I feel for artists, the people who work with them, curators, small venues, promoters, agents, and other freelance workers all over the globe who are suddenly losing their income for what could be a lengthy time period. Now is the time for supporting those artists as much as you can in other ways – buying records and listening closely, or via other channels.”
Hval added, “Me and my band are currently working on alternative ways to communicate The Practice of Love (The Practice of Quarantine? The Practice of Love in the age of Corona?), which I will keep you posted on.”
With that, we might be able to expect more “bonus” tracks like “Bonus Material” in the future. As of Thursday, April 2, Hval has rescheduled several tour dates to September, with additions expected to follow.
