Exclusive: Watch Switchfoot Frontman Jon Foreman Cover “Flight” by Lifehouse

Most people don’t go to The Home Depot expecting to be exposed to a great new song they’ve never heard before, but that’s exactly what happened to Switchfoot frontman Jon Foreman on a recent trip to the home improvement warehouse. Even more surprising: The song was by his band’s summer tour mates Lifehouse. After being blown away by “Flight,” a mounting piano ballad off of Lifehouse’s last record, 2015’s Out of the Wasteland, as it played over the speaker system, Foreman had an idea. “Such a beautiful song for such a beautiful place,” he told Paste earlier this week, “I had to learn it and try it on for size.”

Today, we’re happy to be exclusively sharing his version of the song, which replaces the piano with an acoustic guitar and sees Foreman giving the performance his all, with excellent results. Stripping the song back and letting his voice do the heavy lifting gives the song’s climactic build-up a sense of raw emotion that you don’t necessarily find in Lifehouse’s original.
