Watch Savages’ Official “Strife” Video

Savages’ new video begins peacefully enough, but it was the director’s vision to turn a placid beach scene into a full-on brawl. Antoine Carlier, director of the film and co-founder of Pop Noire records, envisioned a black-and-white scene similar to the beach murder scene in the novel The Stranger by Albert Camus.

“We wanted to make a video that focused on a timeless human physicality and physical expression, a search for understanding through the movement, action and reaction of two characters,” frontwoman Jehnny Beth said, “We chose the classical landscape of the empty beach. A fight ensues between two men: one older, one younger; a tragic outcome, and death.”

The music video was produced by Walter Films and Savages on the beach of Gironade in Southwest France and features Leo Pochat and Richard Duval.

Savages’ full-length debut, Silence Yourself, is out now.
