Javi Gómez is a 33-year-old striker who plays for UD Socuéllamos, currently in Spain’s third division. His team took on CD Toledo on Sunday in a game with huge implications for the promotion playoff hunt.
The score was stuck at 0-0 with only 20 minutes remaining when Gómez jumped to collect a long ball on his chest about 30 yards from goal. With his back still turned to goal, he flipped and hit a bicycle kick, sending the ball sailing over the goalkeeper’s head and into the back of the net.
That goal proved to be the gamewinner— because obviously— and Socuéllamos leapfrogged Toledo in the table, nestling into a playoff spot with only three games left.
Somewhere, Zlatan snorted bitterly.
