Fox Orders Sitcom Pilot From It’s Always Sunny Creators

The Gang is at it again. The boys behind It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia may have another show to their names, with Fox ordering a sitcom pilot from executive producers Charlie Day, Rob McElhenney and Glenn Howerton (per Variety). Titled Cool Kids, the multi-camera sitcom would follow three elderly “cool kids” of a retirement community, whose social standings are challenged by a female newcomer.

Day is the co-creator of the series, along with writer Paul Fruchbom. The showrunner for the potential sitcom will be Kevin Abbott, who has contributed to other sitcoms such as Last Man Standing, Reba and Roseanne. Nick Frenkel will join Day, McElhenney, Howerton, Fruchbom and Abbott as an executive producer, having served the same role for It’s Always Sunny and The Mick, which stars It’s Always Sunny star Kaitlin Olson.

No word yet on casting, or if the It’s Always Sunny creators and actors will have bigger roles in the show. The near future of the long-running FXX sitcom is up in the air; while the show is renewed to its fourteenth season, Glenn Howerton has mentioned the possibility that he may not return to the show, primarily due to his fothcoming show A.P. Bio on NBC. The addition of Cool Kids to The Gang’s work plate may further cause delay for the thirteenth season to 2019.

Hopefully it will continue to stay sunny in Philadelphia, even as each cast member is hard at work on their own projects. Besides Howerton, Charlie Day is a bona-fide movie star with frequent new projects, Kaitlin Olson will return for a second season of The Mick, Rob McElhenney will direct the Minecraft movie and Danny DeVito will do whatever Danny DeVito is doing these days.
