Marvel’s Loki TV Series Starring Tom Hiddleston Confirmed for Disney Streaming Service

Marvel Studios is bringing back Tom Hiddleston as fan favorite Loki for a limited series in development at Disney’s streaming service. The official confirmation of the Loki standalone came in the company’s announcement revealing the name of its new service, Disney+.

The news follows reports in September revealing that Disney was planning a number of limited series based on secondary Marvel Cinematic Universe characters, including Scarlet Witch and Loki, which would premiere on the company’s forthcoming streaming service. Late last month, further reports revealed plans for a Falcon-Winter Soldier limited series, with Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan reprising their roles from the Captain America and The Avengers franchises, respectively.

In the same announcement, Disney also revealed that a Rogue One prequel series was in development for Disney+, with Diego Luna reprising his role as Cassian Andor. Given how that film ended, it only made sense that producers would have to go further back on the Star Wars timeline in order to continue Cassian’s story.

Spoilers ahead for Avengers: Infinity War, but given Loki’s fate in that latest MCU installment, it’s not yet clear where the new series will fall on the franchise’s timeline. Marvel Studios has kept mum on its film slate after the universe-altering events of Infinity War, and it seems we won’t get more details on this forthcoming Loki series for a while.

The Disney+ site is now live for fans looking for updates on the service, which is currently set for a late 2019 launch. Revisit our round-up of everything we know about the service so far here.
