Dave Chappelle Returning With New Comedy Special On HBO

Comedy News

Dave Chappelle looks like he’s finally kicking off the next step of his comeback in 2015, with Comedy Hype first reporting that the celebrated comedian has taped a comedy special during his recent run of shows at Austin City Limits in Texas.

Though he’s been back in the stand-up game for a little while now, it’s been a quiet return, with Chappelle primarily doing small shows around the country, with few guest appearances on talk shows and his biggest event being his slate of performances at New York City’s Radio City Music Hall last summer.

After his highly publicized exit from his acclaimed sketch comedy show Chappelle’s Show on Comedy Central, citing exhaustion and other concerns, it follows that Chappelle would choose to stay out of the limelight and get back to the root of his work in stand-up, without his celebrity getting in the way.

But a talent as great as his can’t stay in the shadows forever it seems, and thankfully, we’ll get our first stand-up special from him in 10 years, since 2005’s For What It’s Worth. The taping itself was a surprise to many fans and news outlets, and characteristic of Chappelle’s low-key, under-the-radar approach. There is no title or release date yet for the special, but it will be premiering on HBO.
