Nintendo World Championship Qualifiers Begin Next Weekend

The Nintendo World Championships are making a grand return this October and you can get your hands in the pie next weekend. On Aug. 19, eight different Best Buy stores will be holding qualifying events.

Participants will be split into two age groups—under 12, and 13 and older. Both groups will get their hands on Mario Kart 7 for 3DS. The under 12 group will do a time trial run of the Luigi’s Mansion course as Mario with the standard kart, standard wheels and super glider. The 13 and older group will compete with the same time trial setup, but on the Bowser Castle 1 course. The top entries from both age groups at the end of day two of each location will qualify for the World Championship.

Competing or not, there’s a little something for everyone. Demos of Super Mario Odyssey and Metroid: Samus Returns will be available to play, and My Nintendo members have a ton of goodies in store. The first 200 My Nintendo members to check in daily at each event will receive exclusive pins—and if you use the event’s QR code to sign in, you’ll get 100 platinum points just for going.
