Watch the Reveal Trailers for Project JUDGE, Forthcoming Detective Thriller from Yakuza Creators

On Monday morning, SEGA of America released two trailers for the exciting new project from Ryu Ga Gotoku Studios (the creator of the Yakuza series), which is currently titled Project JUDGE.

It’s described as a “courtroom thriller,” and the story trailer introduces a dark mystery. You play as Takayuki Yagami, a former lawyer who encounters a string of gruesome murders that prompt him to leave behind the courtroom in pursuit of finding justice against mounting odds.

The gameplay trailer introduces how you, as Yagami, will solve these mysteries. You’ll have to tail your target and observe their behavior without getting caught. Sometimes, your target will give you trouble, so you’ll engage in a series of quick-time events as you chase them down. Chasing them down will often lead to exciting battles, and the trailer encourages you to “go to town” while fighting people, showing a display of attacks so powerful that they verge on hilarious.

Infiltration and investigation will have you disguising yourself up for certain missions in order to effectively infiltrate and search an area. You’ll be able to take photos to collect evidence that will prove essential to solving mysteries. Lastly, the gameplay trailer shows a series of quirky mini-games that seem to contrast the seriousness of the game’s plot while also making total sense because … it’s Ryu Ga Gotoku Studios, after all. If you’ve played any of the Yakuza games, you know that the studio excels at incorporating outrageous moments of humor within the darkness and sincerity of its stories.

The visuals for both trailers are impressive, as is the music, as is the gameplay … anyway. These first two trailers will already get many fans excited, so you should watch them below.

Project JUDGE will be released at some point in 2019 on PlayStation 4. A demo is currently available on the Japanese PlayStation Network.
