Influenced by bands including The Killers, Kings of Leon, Jack White, and Coldplay, Brave Town is bringing a fresh new sound to the Nashville scene and beyond. Brave Town is Jay Ragsdale, Michael Kelley, Lucas Morton, and Dan Crotts.
It was in 2013 that Kelley and Ragsdale began writing together. The combination of Kelley’s distorted punk-rock style of playing and Ragsdale’s ambient post-rock influences and energetic vocals created something that the two knew was going to be something special. Meanwhile, Crotts had recently moved to Nashville after graduating college and was already involved in the music scene. The three met through a mutual friend and had an instant connection. They began writing and practicing in Crotts’ living room, inviting friends to come listen to practices and give critique and feedback.
After much practice, hard work, Brave Town had its first performance at a CauseaScene Nashville show at the High Watt opening for Dinner and A Suit.
After a seemingly endless search for the perfect final piece of the rhythm section, Kelley met Morton through school in 2014. Morton’s first gig on bass with the group was Vanderbilt’s Rites of Spring Festival, where Brave Town shared the stage with the bands Smallpools and Twenty One Pilots. That show was the beginning of what Brave Town is today.
Since then, Brave Town has performed shows all over Nashville, been voted Deli Magazine’s Artist of the Month, received airplay on Lightning 100, played a sold out show with Guitar Center’s Singer-Songwriter contest winner, Josh Doyle, and has released a new EP produced by Paper Route’s Chad Howat. Brave Town strives to not only create great music, but to impact people through their songs and build a welcoming and supportive community.
