“Imagine It’s Christmas” is an album 20 years in the making. Ukulele and piano pop-jazz standards and colorful strings and horns adorn this classic and beautiful collection of this couple’s favorite Christmas tunes.
Whether it’s David and Deidre showing up at the local “Jester’s Bar” at 10 pm on a snowy evening to carol an impromptu version of Silent Night on accordion, or playing ukulele carols with their kids around the tree, or performing at their many concerts, the Casey’s have been finding a way to share Christmas joy to Helena, Montana since the early 90’s.
“Each of these songs on this album are very special to us, and some take us way back,” says Deidre, who sings on most of the songs. “In 1993 David and I got married, started out our family, and also started playing music together. This same year David’s dad, Darrell, had just recorded his first album, which was a Christmas CD, ‘These Good Figs.’”
David (who produced the current album) reflects, “playing shows with my dad at that time really inspired me to keep Christmas music fresh, creative and a living part of our own family’s traditions. So, it’s come full circle, us continuing the tradition of playing and recording songs that are important to our family.”
David and Deidre met in college in Helena, Montana in 1991 and formed Happy Cactus with Colin Meloy (The Decemberists/Tarkio) and drummer Mark Schummer. They live in Helena, Montana, where they write, perform and record music, while raising their 7 children.
