Combining elements of r&b & funk, haunting atmospherics, timeless pop, rock, jazz, & folk sensibilities, & a rich, soulful voice, Dustin Ransom blurs experiences of love, loss, fear, & hope into his music. Built on deep grooves, impeccable musicianship, & honest, thought-provoking lyrics, his songs reveal themselves more & more with each listen.
Ransom was born a musical whiz kid in small-town Indiana. Classically trained on piano, drums, & percussion & self-taught on guitar & bass, he immersed himself in every musical genre possible from a young age. In 2005, he moved to Nashville, Tennessee & became a first-call musician & producer for artists including Ryan Bingham, Jars Of Clay, Dave Barnes, Matt Wertz, Ben Rector, Jon McLaughlin, Gabe Dixon, Emily West, K.S. Rhoads, Shelly Fairchild, Erin McCarley, Butterfly Boucher, Andrew Belle, Andy Davis, Steve Moakler, & many more. Ransom self-produced and engineered his 2015 debut EP, Thread On Fire, along with producer-engineer Adam Bokesch, as well as playing 99% of the instrumentation, singing every vocal, & mixing every track. No vocal correction software was used on Thread On Fire, which carries over into all of his recordings.
In 2016, he created JIGSAW, an interactive experience where fans submitted musical parameters (time signature, key signature, tempo, & instrumentation) in the form of “Jigsaws”. One of these submissions would be randomly chosen, & Ransom would write a song based around it. This resulted in some of his most challenging music to date, including the funk workout “Talk About You”, the autumnal “Black Letters (What You’ll Find)” & the jazz-psychedelia of “Liberation”.
In the summer of 2017, he released his first full-length record, Phases, a masterful showcase of his musical DNA. Ransom toured in support of Phases that fall, opening for pop singer-songwriter Matt Wertz across the United States.
In early 2018, Ransom announced the Home To You Tour, his first tour consisting entirely of house shows. He is currently writing songs for his next release.
