Light From Darkness, Seattle-based acoustic quintet Erwilian’s newest release, offers listeners a vibrant soundscape performed on an enormous variety of instruments, including familiar standbys - recorders, guitars, and drums, as well as the more unusual - hammered dulcimers, marimba, even a vintage celesta the band got its hands on. Erwilian's personnel draw on their varied backgrounds in music, bringing inspirations from classical to electronica, new age to bluegrass, to create a reinvention of contemporary acoustic music using traditional instrumentation. Critics resoundingly agree:
"This is one of the best instrumental works in a long time for any genre."
- Matthew Forss, Inside World Music (insideworldmusic.blogspot.com)
"Stunning; as refined as it is inspirational"
- Nick DeRiso, Something Else! Reviews (somethingelsereviews.com)
"Erwilian has blazed their own path; modernizing old musical styles and inspiring their listeners with vividly beautiful and passionate neo-folk music."
- Justin Kreitzer, Atlas and the Anchor (atlasandtheanchor.com)
