Description

I stood outside the hospital room, feeling helpless. We were going to lose him. All the doctors and nurses in the world couldn't save him now. Glancing at my fellow nurses, I could see the same look of loss on their faces. Gravity felt heavy in these blurry moments of time, watching him slip away.

As the room emptied, someone leaned in to me. "Can you feel the heaviness?" She whispered. Her words were weighted with experience.

I found myself wishing him Godspeed, in silent reverence. A prayer pursuing the heavens from my quivering lips.

How strange it is to slip the bonds of earth, to be caught up in a windstorm of new radiance, finally released from the weight of the world.

"Can you feel the heaviness, she said

The deafening silence inside your head

The laws of gravity always win in the end...

But as the radiance left your eyes

I saw the universe in which it lies

And my heavy heart found its wings once again."
