New Poll Shows a Majority of Americans Believe Trump Is Usually Dishonest

In what is a surprising, yet unsurprising development, a new poll shows that a majority of Americans believe President Trump is usually dishonest. According to a NBC News SurveyMonkey poll released Wednesday, 61 percent of Americans believe the president has trouble telling the truth, with Republican belief in his regular dishonesty at 22 percent and Democratic belief at 94 percent. Independents came in at 76 percent.

The poll comes hot on the heels of the Washington Post announcing Trump’s passing of the 3,000 lie threshold on Tuesday. By their count, the president has averaged 6.5 false or misleading claims a day since taking office.

While the poll shows a pervasive belief that the president is dishonest within the nation, it still shows a 45 percent approval rating for Trump, with 56 percent of Republicans believing he is regularly dishonest while still approving of his performance since entering the Oval Office.

Though it is nice to see the lying nature of the president affirmed by the general public, the sheer amount of cognitive dissonance with the Republican party is still disheartening, and apparent of the disconnection between the GOP and the American public.
