Archer Review: "Drift Problem" (Episode 3.7)

Archer Review: "Drift Problem" (Episode 3.7)

The more I think of this week’s episode of Archer, I realize it is somewhat of an anomaly for the series. Usually with Archer the show builds to a third act that is an excellent combination of action and comedy that Archer puts together perfectly. But with this episode, “Drift Problem”, the show starts off with a bang and a fun first act, and then quickly dissolves into the weakest episode of the third season so far. read more

Justified Review: "The Devil You Know" (Episode 3.04)

Justified Review: "The Devil You Know" (Episode 3.04)

Quarles only joins us for the opening scene this week, but his proposal to Devil proves to be the catalyst that turns Devil’s bubbling discontent with Boyd’s leadership into a full blown boil. By episode’s end, Boyd’s crew will be one man lighter. For Quarles, this must have seemed like a win-win (much like sending Glen Fogle after Raylan). If Boyd ends up one soldier shy, then great. If Devil succeeds, all the better. As Quarles so eloquently yells, “Give me a goddamned amen.” read more

Archer Review: "The Limited" (Episode 3.6)

Archer Review: "The Limited" (Episode 3.6)

With every season of Archer, the ISIS team leaves the confines of the office and go on a trip together, intentional or not, that ends up being one of the funniest episodes of the season. With season 1, the group went on an airship planned to blow up in “Skytanic” and in “Swiss Miss”, they went to a winter resort. This year’s outing in “The Limited” takes them on a high-speed train to return a Nova Scotian freedom fighter, Bilko, to Canada, and stands up against those other great episodes. read more

Justified Review: "Harlan Roulette" (Episode 3.03)

Justified Review: "Harlan Roulette" (Episode 3.03)

For those looking for ‘shades of gray’, may I suggest tuning in to the FX Network Tuesday nights at 10:00. Tonight’s episode was about two things, storytelling and what the stories we choose say about the teller. There were (at least) three story monologues tonight and each one was illuminating not only in showing where each storyteller thinks they fall in the spectrum of right and wrong, but also how mistaken they may be about that. Often our best stories are the ones we tell ourselves. read more

Archer Review: "El Contador" (Episode 3.5)

Archer Review: "El Contador" (Episode 3.5)

It’s an old tried and true formula for _Archer_, but it continues to work so well. Archer and Lana get sent on a mission, one where they are perturbed at each other, while the remaining staff of ISIS stays behind to have their own twisted adventures. In their third season, we’ve seen this set up time and time again, yet creator and writer Adam Reed continually finds new ways to make this simple set up never get old after all these episodes. read more

Archer Review: "The Man From Jupiter" (Episode 3.4)

Archer Review: "The Man From Jupiter" (Episode 3.4)

When looking at the character of Sterling Archer, it is easy to see that he is mostly a heightened version of stereotypes from spy movies, most notably James Bond. While, Archer would have no problem telling you he’s a loudmouth, secret agent, heavily drinking, womanizer, he’d probably also tell you the main influence in his life is actually Burt Reynolds. So it was a brilliant idea for writer/creator Adam Reed to introduce Reynolds into the world of Archer in this third season premiere. read more

It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia Review: “The High School Reunion Part 2: The Gang’s Revenge” (Episode 7.13)

It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia Review: “The High School Reunion Part 2: The Gang’s Revenge” (Episode 7.13)

This season of _It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia_ has had its share of ups-and-downs, both for the show in general and for the characters. In the last episode of the seventh season, we get the end of the high school reunion. In the penultimate episode last week, we left The Gang dejected, wedgied in the bathroom, and seeking revenge on the cool kids. In this final episode, we see that revenge, which ends in classic _It’s Always Sunny_ fashion. read more
