Nintendo Reportedly Planning to Produce up to 30 Million Switch Units Next Fiscal Year

People love that Nintendo Switch, don’t they? Nintendo’s hybrid console has had encouraging sales numbers thus far, outselling the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on a few occasions, and already being expected to outsell the Wii U by the end of 2017. While we reported previously that Nintendo will increase production of the Switch, the numbers are far larger than originally expected, according to a new WSJ report.

Nintendo raised their projection of shipped units for the current fiscal year from 10 million to 14 million, and the videogame company is planning to produce somewhere between 25 million to 30 million consoles during the subsequent fiscal year, which will begin in April of 2018. According to the report, Nintendo has already begun to inform business partners of the plan, while also mentioning that “the plan is still in its early stages and Nintendo could aim higher depending on sales during this year’s holiday season.”

With Black Friday and the holiday season quickly approaching, consumers are hoping that Nintendo will be ready to meet demand. The SNES Classic, Nintendo’s other “must-buy” hot item, is near-impossible to find in brick-and-mortar stores, but the company has promised that production has “dramatically increased.”
