"It is quite simply smart and engaging music." — RockWired Magazine

A compilation of Deborah Crooks's music from her latest Beauty Everywhere record, as well as songs from 2015's Something Special EP and 2013's Little Bird.

Following Deborah Crooks’ March 2016 release Go Out And Make Some, with Bay Station, her duo project with Kwame Copeland,Crooks went right back to work laying down the finishing touches on her solo CD, Beauty Everywhere (Oct. 18th, 2016). While keeping musically in step with the Americana-esque approach with Bay Station, the songwriting on Beauty Everywhere leans more towards the personal, with songs covering the middle of a relationship (“Jumped in Anyway”), the end of a love relationship (“Record of a Day”), and moving into a new home (“Make this House”). Topics also explored are the impact of these uncertain times upon others, on (“Shattered”), about the lengths someone will go to put the pieces back together after their world falls apart, as well as the familial consequences faced by veterans of war (“Overseas and Faraway”).

Beauty Everywhere was produced and arranged by Art Khu (Jacqui Naylor, Art Khu Quartet) and recorded at John Vanderslice’s newly opened Tiny Telephone Oakland (an off-shoot of Vanderslice’s renowned analog based Tiny Telephone Studios in San Francisco). Accompanying Deborah Crooks (vocals), is fellow Bay Station member Kwame Copeland (acoustic guitar, backing vocals), longtime collaborators, Mike Stevens (drums), Ben Bernstein (bass), and Khu (piano, organ, acoustic and electric guitars). The recording was mixed by Shawn Alpay (Emily Jane White) and mastered by Michael Romanowski at Coast Mastering.

With a diverse background studying Natural History, Buddhism and yoga, and a published literary resume that includes journalism, poetry and prose, Crooks’ spiritual and creative interests naturally coalesce and are given voice through her song. With Khu’s luscious piano underpinning Crooks earthy vocals, the title track’s lyrics: “Beauty everywhere, I’m looking all the time…” encourage one to be mindful, and hopeful, finding beauty in the everyday, despite the challenges of personal and socio-political upheaval. “Finding beauty consciously, is really important to me right now,” Crooks states, “I’m working on making ‘finding beauty’ another practice.”
