Disney and Coca-Cola Unveil Unique Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge Coke Packaging
Photos courtesy of Coca-ColaOne of the greatest mysteries of the Star Wars universe has finally been answered. Yes, they do have Coca-Cola products a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away. Now we know how Jek Porkins got so porky.
Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge opens in Disneyland in just over a month, and the status of Coke products in the new expansion has actually been a serious question for people who write about theme parks. Galaxy’s Edge is supposed to be a deeply immersive Star Wars experience, and unless we missed a scene somewhere about Yoda’s love of Mr. Pibb, a typical 20 ounce plastic soda bottle doesn’t quite fit that vibe. That’s why you can’t get a Coke at Universal’s Wizarding World of Harry Potter, and since Galaxy’s Edge is clearly an attempt to one-up Wizarding World, it was hard to see how Coke products would fit into Disney’s vision.
Disney and Coke came up with a solution to that problem: put the Coke in a bottle that looks like Star Wars.
This is what Coca-Cola, Diet Coke, Sprite and Dasani will look like inside Galaxy’s Edge. As you can see, each bottle retains the classic color scheme of its respective product, with the logo rendered in the Aurebesh language from Star Wars. There’s a dingy, handmade look to them, which fits the Star Wars aesthetic. Weirdly, the sodas look like they’re packaged in thermal detonators, which are like the grenades of the Star Wars galaxy; perhaps that’s some kind of coded commentary on the health impacts of drinking too much soda, or perhaps it’s just something that Coke and Disney thought looked cool.
They do look cool. This is about the best way Disney could’ve handled this. They’re unmistakably Coke products, but they won’t stand out too much inside Galaxy’s Edge and hinder anybody’s Star Wars dream. And as inveterate Diet Coke addicts, we’re happy that Galaxy’s Edge will be addressing our biggest problem with the Wizarding World of Harry Potter and let us enjoy a cool, refreshing grenade full of our beverage of choice. Let’s just hope they have a reasonable price point, and don’t sell for $10 or more as some kind of collector’s item.

And you can also check out an official commercial for Coke’s Galaxy’s Edge lineup below. These special Coke bottles will be available at Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge when it opens at Disneyland on May 31 and at Disney’s Hollywood Studios at Disney World in Florida on August 29. (And no, you’re not crazy: Star Wars did used to be all about Pepsi. Sometimes change is nice.)
