Disney Is Developing Rooms That Wirelessly Charge Devices

Some people already consider Disney parks the most magical places on Earth. For those of us who are addicted to technology, Disney is stepping up their game.

Disney is currently working up ways to wirelessly power rooms, thus giving an entire space the power to charge multiple devices. What could be more useful to guests who need to use their phones constantly to contact each other, take photos and videos and use the Disney app to use GPS around the parks, see how long the lines are at rides and find their favorite characters and subsequently drain their batteries within hours?

Although most of us like to believe in the magic of Disney, this magic comes from a technology called Quasistatic Cavity Resonance for Ubiquitous Wireless Power Transfer. Essentially, a pipe sends 1900 watts of power in a room with special aluminum padding, a generator and a power amplifier. Disney has already created a living room prototype that powers 10 different devices including a fan, lamp and smartphone.

Although we won’t see this technology implemented at Disney parks or hotels for a few more years, it goes to show that Disney will never quit making magic for the folks who believe.
