Peter Sarsgaard Joins Hulu’s The Looming Tower

Peter Sarsgaard (Jackie, Blue Jasmine) has joined Hulu’s forthcoming 9/11 drama, The Looming Tower.

Here’s Hulu’s official description of Sarsgaard’s character, CIA analyst Martin Schmidt:

Martin Schmidt [is] a CIA analyst who invariably believes he’s by far the smartest person in the room. Under orders to share intelligence with John O’Neill and the FBI, Schmidt opts instead to horde information under the misguided notion that the CIA is the only agency equipped to battle potential terrorist threats.

The aforementioned John O’Neill will be played by Newsroom and The Martian alum Jeff Daniels—you can read more about his character (and the show in general) here. The cast also includes Tahar Rahim (as Ali Soufan), Michael Stuhlbarg (as Richard Clarke), Bill Camp (as Robert Chesney), Virginia Kull (as Kathy Shaughnessy), Louis Cancelmi (as Vince Stuart) and Sullivan Jones (as Floyd Bennet).

The adaptation of Lawrence Wright’s Pulitzer Prize-winning exposé about the events that led up to 2001’s Sept. 11 attacks has no concrete release date at the moment, but is targeted to hit Hulu sometime this year. The ten-episode, hour-long series comes from writer Dan Futterman (Foxcatcher, Capote) and director Alex Gibney (Going Clear: Scientology and The Prison of Belief, Taxi to the Dark Side, We Steal Secrets: The Story of Wikileaks).

(Disclosure: Paste Assistant Movies Editor Shannon Houston is a staff writer on The Looming Tower.)
