Patrick Wilson to Play Jason Momoa’s Evil Half-Brother in Aquaman

Movies News Aquaman

Whatever you want to say about the DC movie universe (and we have plenty to say), it’s certainly not lacking for talent in front of the camera. Henry Cavill is the physical incarnation of Superman, even if he’s not allowed to use his abundance of charm on screen, and everybody’s favorite part of Batman v Superman was either Ben Affleck as Batman or Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman. Aquaman already has Jason Momoa perfectly cast as the under-appreciated superhero himself, and now the movie is adding another solid actor to its cast.

Aquaman director James Wan announced on Twitter late last night that Patrick Wilson is going to be playing Ocean Master, a.k.a. Orm Curry, Aquaman’s half-brother. Wilson has worked with Wan on two Insidious movies and both Conjuring movies, making Aquaman their fifth collaboration. The two clearly work well together.

In DC’s New 52 reboot, Ocean Master is the king of Atlantis before the Justice League stop him from sinking Boston into the ocean and Aquaman assumes the throne. Based on Wan’s use of the hashtag #KingOrm, plus the Justice League clip that shows Aquaman in a less-than-regal state, we’re guessing the movie will be doing some version of that storyline. Aquaman’s rogue gallery doesn’t come close to matching Batman’s, or even Superman’s, in terms of star power, but a solid actor like Wilson behind any character can make for a compelling villain—assuming DC can finally make a good movie.

Aquaman hits theaters in 2018.
