The Ridiculous 6 broke records when it received the coveted, perfect 0% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Now, Netflix is claiming that the film broke another record. At the CES 2016, Netflix Chief Content Officer Ted Sarandos, stated that The Ridiculous 6 is the most streamed film in Netflix’s history, at least in an initial 30-day period. The film also holds the No.1 spot in every Netflix territory.
Netflix keeps its statistics secret, so there is no clear indication of whether it includes viewers who stopped watching the movie within the first 10 minutes. If this claim is entirely accurate, it shouldn’t come as much of a surprise. Adam Sandler’s movies make money. Even the critically panned film Jack and Jill managed to garner $149.7 million in the box office. There are many reasons why people watch Sandler’s films. It could be because of the hype, sorcery, or because Sandler is the world’s guilty pleasure. We don’t have the answers. We also don’t have access to Netflix’s highly secretive data on viewer behavior. All we know is that in the last 30 days, no film was viewed on Netflix more times than The Ridiculous Six.
In the age of information overload, it may makes sense why people worldwide would want to sit and watch a film that requires them to shut down their brain momentarily.
