Seth Rogen’s Sausage Party Trailer Screens Before Showing of Finding Dory

Finding Dory, the great sequel to 2003 classic Finding Nemo, reeled in a massive $136.2 million this past weekend, shattering box office records while delivering another touching tale about the importance of family.

From those numbers, it was probably the movie to see for kids and parents everywhere, which is why previews for, say, an animated comedy like The Secret Life of Pets would be totally appropriate, while an R-rated trailer for an animated comedy about sentient foods realizing they will be murdered by cutlery and human teeth is not.

In a move that probably made Seth Rogen do this for awhile, a California Brenden theater screened a preview for his forthcoming film Sausage Party before a screening of the PG-rated Finding Dory.

Parents most likely went from mildly entertained to fully freaking out at the point in the Sausage Party trailer where director Greg Tiernan’s Potato character hollers a painful “Jesus fuck!” as his skin is peeled from his body.

Walter Eichinger, the vice president of Brenden Theaters, has since apologized, telling local newspaper East Bay Times that the mix-up occurred while “moving screens around in effort to accommodate several large last-minute groups wanting to see Dory.”

“It was caught soon, but not until the trailer played,” said Eichinger. “We regret it, apologize for it, and we are not happy that it happened. We fully realize this trailer is not appropriate for Dory and we would never schedule something like that.”
