Olivia Wilde is Directing a Music Video for the Red Hot Chili Peppers

Music News olivia wilde

Having just directed a video for Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros in March, actress Olivia Wilde is behind the camera again, this time for the Red Hot Chili Peppers. She is directing the music video for “Dark Necessities,” the first single from RHCP’s forthcoming The Getaway.

Wilde has been making her way in the world of directing since 2011, when she wrote and directed a short film, Free Hugs. The video she directed for Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros’ “No Love Like Yours” was shot completely using iPhones, and it’s no wonder the actually gorgeous cinematography gained serious attention from RHCP.

The Vinyl star has taken to Instagram to show off behind-the-scenes moments of the video, obviously to make us all incredibly jealous of what a cool set that must be. Wilde joked about making drummer Chad Smith play at double speed, including the highly appropriate hashtag, #directorheaven.

RHCP have also also teased set photos, letting us know that the video is “coming soon.”

The Getaway, the 11th studio album from RHCP, will be released on June 17. “Dark Necessities” and the title track are available now as singles. Maybe the Wilde-directed video will drop on release day as a bonus? We hope so.
