About the Book

An epic swashbuckling, dungeon crawling, monster fighting quest to kill a dragon and take is stuff!

After stealing a priceless relic from the Church of the Book, Infidel is the world’s most infamous mercenary. Now she’s got her eyes on a new prize, the fabled treasure trove of the dragon Greatshadow. To reach him, she must disguise herself to join a band of knights and priests on a quest to slay the dragon, a dangerous gambit since she's not been given the nickname "Infidel" without good reason, and if there's anyone the church wants to kill more than the dragon, it's her.

Assuming she survives her own teammates, surviving Greatshadow won't be easy. He's the primal dragon of fire, whose spirit inhabits every flame, from blazing bonfires to the faintest candle. Killing his body isn't enough, since his magic will let him build a new body out of any flame. To kill his spirit will require that Infidel literally journey to Hell and back. What she carries back with her from the land of the dead will change the world forever, and set all of reality on the path toward the Dragon Apocalypse!

About the Author

James Maxey’s mother warned him if he read too many comicbooks they would warp his mind. She was right! Now an adult who can’t stop daydreaming, James is unsuited for decent work and ekes out a pittance writing down demented fantasies about masked women, fiery dragons, and monkeys. Oh god, so many monkeys.

Readers interested in sampling Maxey’s odd ramblings might enjoy his science-fantasy Bitterwood series, the secondary world fantasy of his Dragon Apocalypse novels, his superhero novels Nobody Gets the Girl, Burn Baby Burn, and Covenant or the steam-punk visions of Bad Wizard. His short fiction has appeared in IGMS, Asimov’s, and over a dozen anthologies, with the best of his work appearing in the collection There is No Wheel. In 2015, James was selected as the Piedmont Laureate.

James lives in Hillsborough, North Carolina with his lovely and patient wife Cheryl and too many cats. For more information about James and his writing, visit jamesmaxey.net.
