About the Book

As a kid, that was one of my favorite sounds. It usually happened at about four o’clock in the afternoon, and it meant the evening edition of the Minneapolis Star had arrived. I’d spread the pages, often cold from the winter chill, on the living room floor and dive into the worlds of Lil’ Abner, Gasoline Alley, and my beloved Peanuts. I wished I could climb intro those pen and ink neighborhoods and be friends with those characters. Would Linus find his blanket after Lucy buried it? Would snoopy escape the “The Icicle of Doom”? I’d have to wait one more day to find out. But I knew one thing for sure. Someday, I wanted to be a cartoonist.

Well, that didn’t happen. I became a musician, and played guitar in bands. Later I became a pastor of a church. Then one day a simple device brought back my ambitions of cartooning. It was an iPad, along with a simple app called “ArtStudio” that allowed me draw cartoons again. One day I dared myself to post one on Facebook. The drawing was a bit corny, but it got a few likes, and even a “share” or two. Just enough to encourage me.

For the next couple of years, I self published several cartoons a week. They were usually born out of my Bible reading time. Slowly, they got a little better. At least I hope they did. I hope you enjoy these comics. I decided to call it “Credo” because these scribbles articulate my faith beliefs. Hopefully they’ll encourage you and maybe make you ponder a few things. Either way, thank you for giving them a look. You can find a few samples here, or download the entire book here.

Blessings, Spencer Bernard
