All tips from this album will go toward Leela Sexton (14) in her fight against childhood Leukemia. It is a small way to help bear the burden that she and her family are facing and to let them know they are loved.
About “The Blood”:
I (Lauren) wrote this song in 2013 after a summertime campfire with friends. We had played music for hours, and my fingers were cracked and starting to bleed. I was suddenly struck by that red substance-- the life and symbolic weight it holds for all humans. For myself, in that moment it was a product of bonding with friends and a night well spent. For Lady Macbeth, blood was a symbol of her guilt and the stain of a guilty conscience. In Judaism, it is family, sacrifice, atonement. For those who follow Jesus, his blood shed means their redemption. It’s a clean slate.
In November of 2013 my niece Leela (14) was diagnosed with childhood Leukemia: cancer of the blood. Though her outlook is positive, she is fighting a battle that no teenager should ever have to. Once I had recorded this song, it just made sense to post it on Noisetrade in support of Leela and the thousands of other kids who are facing Leukemia and other blood diseases. Thanks for listening.
Written and preformed by Lauren Sexton.
Recorded and mixed by Amanda Lee. Camarillo, California. 2013.
