Angus and Julia Stone: A Book Like This
After releasing two EPs in the last few years, the Sydney, Australia-bred folksters created a nearly 100 percent-listenable album with their first full length, A Book Like This.
The album’s vibe reeks of breezy summer nights spent by the ocean, and the gentle, rolling guitar melodies provide a soothing backdrop for Angus’ soft croon and Julia’s quirky vocals. The outcome is an understated variety of new folk, potentially branded as bland due to the ease of drifting through the album’s 13 songs. It’s true—you don’t have to work hard to like this album, but it’s nice to have a break every so often.

Australian duo redefine easy listening
Easy listening has always carried a negative connotation. It’s boring unchallenging and really just a genre for things like Muzak and radio stations marketed towards the 40-plus set. Yet despite the bad rap, the music created by brother-sister duo, Angus and Julia Stone, really can’t be described any other way.
