Death Grips Working on New Music With Shrek Director Andrew Adamson

In a tweet posted on Monday, Death Grips announced they are working on new music with a surprise guest: Shrek director Andrew Adamson.

While it may come as a surprise to many, fans have come to expect out-of-the-box collaborations from the experimental hip-hop band. Robert Pattinson (Twilight, Water for Elephants) played guitar on “Birds” from the group’s 2013 album Government Plates, for instance.

The Twitter announcement marks the first taste of new music since the release of an untitled 11-minute song last year. The yet-to-be-titled album will be the follow-up to 2016’s Bottomless Pit.

Adamson has been relatively quiet on the directorial front since 2012’s Cirque du Soleil: Worlds Away. The success of the Shrek and The Chronicles of Narnia franchises made Adamson one of the most successful directors of the 2000s with his mix of fantasy and animation. But things seem to be looking up with pending projects like a new Shrek film and a live-action adaptation of Curious George.

Given both artists’ backgrounds, their collaboration should be one to look forward to in the future. See the tweet that set off a thousand memes below.
