We reported yesterday that Simon Tam secured the dubious honor of trademarking his band’s controversial name: The Slants. The Supreme Court’s unanimous decision affects much more than just one Asian-American rock band, however—the landmark case sets a legal precedent that is sure to factor heavily into future questions of offensive free speech.

One particularly high-profile beneficiary will likely be the NFL’s Washington Redskins, who had their trademark application shot down in 2014 for being disparaging towards Native Americans. Since we’re not worried about that anymore, apparently, the team might as well reconsider.

Clearly there is a lot more to this story, and tonight, The Daily Show with Trevor Noah will discuss the decision with correspondent Ronny Chieng. Hopefully their conversation will shed more light on the expected fallout of this ruling. Failing that, it’ll still probably be pretty funny.
