How To Make 6 Signature Cocktails From Broadway Shows
Just because you can’t hit the latest Broadway show every night doesn’t mean you can’t drink like you are. Sweet Hospitality Group is the catering company behind the concessions at shows such as “A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder,” “Kinky Boots,” “Aladdin,” and “Jersey Boys.” The company shared with us the recipes for some of the cocktails it made from some of Broadway’s biggest shows. Open your liquor cabinet, put on some show tunes, and give a few of these a try.
The Bungalow Bee
First served as the signature cocktail for “Casa Valentina.”
Ingredients
2 oz gin
1 slice of fresh ginger (about ½ inch)
1 oz honey syrup (1 part honey and 1 part hot water)
1 oz fresh lemon juice
3 dashes Bar Keep Spiced Lavender Bitters
Seltzer
Lemon twist
Directions: In a mixing glass, muddle ginger and honey syrup. Add ice, gin, lemon juice, bitters and a small splash of seltzer. Shake gently just to combine. Strain into a 10-oz. glass filled with ice. Garnish with a lemon twist.
The Ruby Fizz
Served under the name The Heir Apparent as the signature cocktail for “A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder.”
Ingredients
1 oz gin
¾ oz lemon juice
1 oz lemon juice
½ oz rosemary simple syrup*
Tonic
2 dashes Regan’s Orange Bitters
Lemon wedge
Directions: Fill a 10-oz. glass with ice. Add gin, port, lemon juice and syrup. Add tonic to fill. Top with bitters. Flip to mix. Garnish with a lemon wedge.
*Ingredients for Rosemary Simple Syrup (1-quart batch)
1 box superfine sugar
1 bunch fresh rosemary
Hot water
Directions for Rosemary Simple Syrup: Combine sugar and rosemary syrup in a 1-quart container. Add hot water to fill. Mix to dissolve sugar and let steep for 20 to 30 minutes. Strain to remove rosemary
The Party Starter
Served under the name The Conversation Starter as the signature cocktail for “City of Conversation.”
Ingredients
1 oz vodka
½ oz Cherry Heering (or other brandy or liqueur)
1 oz fresh orange juice
Ginger beer
3 dashes Scrappy’s Lime Bitters
Cherry
Directions: Fill a 10-oz. glass with ice and add vodka, Cherry Heering and orange juice. Top with ginger beer to fill. Add bitters. Stir or flip to mix. Garnish with a cherry.
The Green with Envy
Served under the name Something Wicked as the signature cocktail for “MacBeth.”
Ingredients
¾ oz lime juice
3 cucumber slices (plus additional for garnish)
1 fresh mint sprig
1 tbsp superfine sugar
1 oz absinthe
Prosecco
Directions: Muddle lime juice, cucumber, mint and sugar in a mixing glass. Add absinthe and ice and shake well. Strain into a champagne flute. Top with Prosecco. Garnish with cucumber wheel.
Love in the Dark
Served as the signature cocktail for “Fly By Night.”
Ingredients
2 oz The Kracken Black Spiced Rum
1 oz pineapple juice
Ginger beer
3 drops Bittercube Cherry Bark Vanilla Bitters
Pineapple wedge
Directions: Fill a 10-oz. glass with ice. Add rum and pineapple juice. Top with ginger beer to fill. Add bitters. Stir or flip to mix. Garnish with pineapple wedge.
Spring Fling
Served under the name The Toast of Mayfair as the signature cocktail for “Cabaret.”
Ingredients
4 raspberries
1 lime wedge
1 fresh bay leaf (plus additional for garnish)
4 drops Bittermens Burlesque Bitters
1 tsp superfine sugar
1 oz gin
½ oz kirshwasser
Sparkling Riesling
Directions: Muddle raspberries, lime, bay leaf, bitters and sugar in a mixing glass. Add gin and kirshwasser. Add ice and shake until well chilled. Strain into a coupe glass. Top with sparkling Riesling. Garnish with a bay leaf.
