Daily Dose: Rose Hotel, “Write Home”

Daily Dose is your daily source for the song you absolutely, positively need to hear every day. Curated by the Paste Music Team.

Rose Hotel, aka Atlanta-based musician Jordan Reynolds, has one more single to share before her debut album I Will Only Come When It’s A Yes arrives May 31. “Write Home,” an enchanting bedroom piece that quickly evolves into a spacey, twang-tinged jam, is the third and final tune we’ll hear before the record drops, and it’s perhaps the most arresting yet. Listen to it below.

“Write Home” follows previously released singles “10 K” and “Running Behind.” It’s a miraculous mix of psych-rock, dream-pop and jazz that shouldn’t work, but Reynolds and her band (made up of other ATL aces from groups like Material Girls, Neighbor Lady, Karaoke and Palm Sunday) knit them all tightly together for a full, bold sound. The warped guitars and hurried drums sound like Aussie psych; the relaxed trumpet and pedal steel like a fusion of early blues and jazz.

Reynolds says the song is about loving and leaving places:

“Write Home” examines the emotions that surround leaving people and places behind in order to move forward in your life—but still wanting to remain connected to them. Still loving someone even though you have to leave them and still missing a place even when it no longer serves you.
