Portlandia star and Sleater-Kinney co-lead singer Carrie Brownstein has revealed that new music from the Washington-based band is currently in the works. The news came during an interview with Billboard while discussing what life would look like after the impending end of Portlandia.
Brownstein founded Sleater-Kinney alongside co-vocalist and guitarist Corin Tucker and drummer Janet Weiss in 1994, influenced by the ‘90s riot grrrl movement. The band’s last album, No Cities to Love (2015), came after an eight-year hiatus, during which Brownstein began working with co-star Fred Armisen on their hit television show Portlandia. The show’s first episode aired Jan. 21, 2011, six years after Sleater-Kinney released what they thought would be their final album.
