Listen to Zack de la Rocha’s El-P-Produced Debut Solo Single
Photo by Kevin Winter/GettyFans have been semi-patiently awaiting Zack de la Rocha’s debut solo album since his departure from Rage Against the Machine in 2000. Now it seems that de la Rocha will finally make good on that promise, with the release of a belligerent single, “Digging for Windows,” produced by Run the Jewels’ El-P.
De le Rocha hasn’t been silent for the past 16 years, appearing on the Run the Jewels 2 standout “Close Your Eyes (And Count to Fuck),” as well as recording more than 20 tracks with the likes of Trent Reznor, DJ Shadow, El-P, Questlove and others. Unfortunately, fans will never hear those tracks, as de la Rocha felt they sounded too similar to Rage’s material. “I felt like I was going through the motions,” he explained in an interview with the Los Angeles Times in 2008. “Not that what was produced wasn’t great, but I feel now that I’ve maybe reinvented the base sounds that emanate from the songs.”
“Digging for Windows” does just that. The track showcases de la Rocha’s aggressive vocals, supported by vigorous RTJ-style beats, but leaves behind Rage’s signature guitar-focused sound. Listen to the track below.
