About the Book

This e-book gives you a practical, straightforward approach to make positive changes in your life. As a professor and licensed clinical psychologist, I walk you through a step-by-step approach of healing and growth that I have used successfully in my own life and in the lives of many individuals. As a result of reading this e-book, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Experience grace and love.
  • Determine what you really want.
  • Identify the blocks that keep you from getting what you want.
  • Gain insight into your struggle.
  • Make concrete changes in your life.
  • Persist when the going gets tough.
  • Develop a team to help you.

I believe God created you to live a life of abundance and experience a life full of love and purpose. If there are things getting in the way of that full life, I want to help you experience healing and growth.

Thanks for welcoming me into this journey with you. Let’s get started!

About the Author

I love growing and learning. I believe that we were made to live an abundant life, using our gifts and passions to help a world in need. I am enthusiastic about pursuing life to the full, and helping others to do so also.

However, if you are anything like me, you sometimes struggle to do this. If you struggle, or believe that you could be more effective in your personal or spiritual life, my writing is for you. I write about practical strategies and exercises that you can apply to your life today in order to experience healing, growth, and abundance in your life. My goal is to help people grow relationally, physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually.

My passion for healing, growth, and learning was instrumental in my career path. In college I studied psychology at the University of Illinois, where I worked with a professor named Ed Diener, who studied subjective well-being (basically, how to be happy). After I graduated from college, I attended graduate school at Virginia Commonwealth University, where I received my Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology. During graduate school, I developed a love for counseling, helping, research, and writing.

After receiving my doctorate, I moved to Dallas, TX and started a job as an Assistant Professor in the Psychology Department at the University of North Texas. I teach Positive Psychology and Multicultural Counseling. I have an active research program on topics related to humility, forgiveness, and religion/spirituality. I am a licensed clinical psychologist in the state of Texas, and I also speak at various conferences and other venues throughout the year.

Besides being a research interest, my religious faith is an important aspect of my identity. I am a Christian, and I long to have a close relationship with God and love others well. I have also experienced a good deal of struggle in my faith journey, and am passionate about helping others who are struggling in their spiritual life. I try not to shy away from difficult dialogues regarding religion and spirituality; rather, I long to be honest and provide a platform for open, humble discussion.

When I’m not teaching, researching, or writing, you can usually find me hanging out with friends, cheering on the Chicago Bears, or working out at my local CrossFit gym.
