About the Book

When social worker Penny Wade meets her new client, Dani Martin, she thinks her job is to help the sixteen-year-old cope with her mother’s sudden death. But Dani raises some troubling questions about how Anita Martin died.

The police call it an accidental death. After all, people die from anaphylaxis every day. Dani is convinced her mother was murdered. Where was her always-handy EpiPen? Who was with Anita when she ate a pastry contaminated with nuts?

When a second murder victim turns up, Penny risks her life to uncover the disturbing truth about Dani’s family, whose illicit connections reach from the back alleys of Boston’s art world to the underworld of India’s gem trade.

About the Author

I'm a sociologist, an unconventional mom, and a singing runner (I neither sing nor run well, but I do them at the same time). Writing for me feels like following my characters around. They are very real for me and they tell me how the story goes. I ignore them at my own peril (which is to say I always have to rewrite when I get to willful and don't follow their lead).

My protagonist, Penny Wade, is a social worker. Like most social workers, she goes above and beyond the job description to help her clients. Sometimes that means tracking a murderer.

Enjoy hanging out in Boston with a crew of characters you'll come to love. When you finish the first book, follow my characters on Twitter and Pinterest until the second one is released (late winter 2016).
