The Sky The Sky is a collection of instrumental tracks recorded over a few years. I like to dabble in different musical styles and see what I can make of it. Some tracks I've recorded with cues from Brian Eno's Music For Airports, or Godspeed You! Black Emperor! Or the performances of the Decibel ensemble. The instrumental tracks on Kid A/Amnesiac. Nick Cave's soundtrack work.
These aren't those recordings.
Instead, these are the ones that are more inspired by the mood of Eno's Thursday Afternoon, or the Paris, Texas soundtrack. Or the performances by The Necks where a simple motif is pushed until it breaks or evolves. These recordings all seemed to fit together because of something they shared with that.
They're all recorded in one take at the moment of inspiration with a single guitar, a small amp and a reverb pedal. Except for the acoustic track – no amp was needed for that. Post production effects bring out some different atmospherics and moods, but nothing was changed from that initial recording.
Recorded in Little Room Records living room studio, Fremantle. Flat #3, Berlin. Flat #4, Berlin.
Extra post-production advice from Dave Robertson and Joachim Peerenboom. Extra thanks for advice and words of encouragement to S. And to SK for sanity in the fog.
