Community colleges don't have the greatest of reputations. It may be unfair to generalize, but most community colleges aren't known for fostering artistic community or cultivating musical creativity. However unlikely of an environment it may have been, community college is the place where Philadelphia was born. After becoming fast friends while leading music for a campus Bible study and playing together off and on throughout college, the guys finally decided to start writing together in the fall of 2006. The energy and passion they discovered in the process was untamable.
Since then, they have independently recorded and released two EP's and played dozens of shows around Memphis and the Mid-South. Their third EP, "Common Man," is due out in September 2011.
Philadelphia is Austin Black (vocals, keyboards), Jeff Cox (guitar), Stephen McNeill (guitar), Justin Ricks (bass), and Jason Charnes (drums).
