Marc Jacobs Reveals Star-Studded Promotional Images for Fall 2016 Line
Photos via Marc JacobsOn Tuesday, designer Marc Jacobs started to reveal the promotional ads for his fall 2016 line of clothing and accessories on Instagram. The designer, who has used the platform before to promote his spring 2016 campaign earlier this year, has taken to the photo-sharing website to give in-depth descriptions of his muses, and how and why they have influenced his creative vision. Photographed by David Sims, the images highlight the exquisite detail of Jacobs’ designs with multi-colored light and textural emphasis.
The ad campaign features portraits of a variety of stars including several high-profile artists, actresses, musicians and models. Missy Elliott, Sissy Spacek, Genesis P-Orridge and Binx Walton number amongst them, all of whom have in some way affected or moved the prolific fashion designer and inspired his latest designs.
“The individuals in these photographs represent a collective embodiment of love, honesty, integrity, courage, strength, curiosity and inspiration,” Jacobs explains in the caption of his portrait of Genesis. “Together, as one story, this collection is a reminder to question and challenge normal and to continue exploring and pushing boundaries.”
The campaign and collection (which features a number of androgynous pieces) couldn’t feel more timely in its promotion of inclusivity and courage, especially in the wake of one of the deadliest hate crimes in American history. Jacobs is not just a creative visionary for featuring such a wide range of personalities and figures in his latest campaign, but a quiet champion of political issues surrounding gender, race and sexuality that continually plague our society.
Though we rarely think of fashion as a remedy to the political and societal ills of the world, social media campaigns like this bridge the gap between the “elite” world of high fashion and the widely consumed mediums of pop culture in a way that promotes positive change through representation and artistry.
