Anthony Anderson made an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! Thursday night to talk about the 100th episode of ABC’s Black-ish, which will feature a musical tribute to Prince and his classic music.
Kimmel teased the episode with a segment from the sitcom, which flashes back to an apprehensive young Dre (Anderson), nervous to kiss his future wife goodnight at the end of their first date. He asks himself, “What would Prince do?” and imagines himself dressed as the pop icon singing “Kiss.”
The clip was met with raucous laughter—the loudest coming from Anderson himself, who confessed to having never seen the forthcoming installment.
In the interview, Anderson also reveals that he knew the late pop star and hung out at Prince’s house. “We were ‘Friendly’ with a capital ‘F,’” Anderson explains.
The 100th episode of Black-ish focuses on Dre’s twins, Jack and Diane (Miles Brown and Marsai Martin, respectively), who have never heard of Prince. Dre tries to introduce his children to the cultural icon and educate them on all that he did to break down racial stereotypes in the 1980s and beyond.
