Harvey Weinstein, Charged with Felony Sex Crimes, Has Turned Himself In

Harvey Weinstein turned himself in to the NYPD on Friday morning on sexual misconduct-related charges. He has been charged with rape, a criminal sex act, sex abuse and sexual misconduct for incidents involving two separate women, according to CNN. A New York judge set his bond at a whopping $10 million.

Benjamin Brafman, attorney to Weinstein, said his client plans to plead not guilty to the three felony charges against him, adding, “We intend to move very quickly to dismiss these charges.” Weinstein was widely accused of sexual misconduct, ranging from rape to other sex crimes, and his alleged treatment of women being brought into the greater public conscious has had rippling effects throughout the entertainment industry and beyond.

“This moves from the court of public opinion into an actual courtroom,” #MeToo founder Tarana Burke told Variety on Thursday in reaction to Weinstein’s then-impending arrest. “That is super cathartic for a bunch of the survivors, or even survivors who are not necessarily victimized by him.”
