Watch Knox Fortune’s Hypnotic “No Dancing” Video
Image via Knox Fortune/YouTubeChance the Rapper introduced Knox Fortune to the world on “All Night,” the Fortune-featuring cut from Chano’s Grammy-winning 2016 mixtape Coloring Book. Fortune has since stepped out on his own, releasing his acclaimed debut album Paradise in September. Now, the Chicago indie artist legally known as Kevin Rhomberg has shared the video for Paradise opener “No Dancing.”
Shot in and around his hometown, the striking video, a time-lapse-style clip from Weird Life Films, puts Fortune front and center, following the singer around Chicago. As is only appropriate for a song called “No Dancing,” Fortune doesn’t move much during the video—rather, the camera does, cutting away and back in repeatedly to create the illusion of movement and in doing so, emphasizing Fortune’s despondent stillness. It’s a perfect fit for the contradiction that is “No Dancing”: a dance-floor banger for wallflowers.
Fortune has a handful of tour dates on the books for this week, including a show at the Troubadour in Los Angeles tonight, Dec. 4. If his output to this point is any indication, the stages are only going to get bigger for Fortune in 2018.
