Is the New Arcade Fire Single Coming Out This Week?

Arcade Fire, in keeping with the recent approaches of other big-name artists, have been relentlessly leading fans on with small teases of their impending album: They debuted new music at a secret show in Montreal, announced a couple of small-venue shows suggesting the build-up to a full-blown tour, and in January released their first new song since 2013’s Reflektor: “I Give You Power,” a collaboration with Mavis Staples. It’s unknown if that single will be included on the new album or if the washed-out disco-synth sound of the song alludes to what Arcade Fire’s new material will explore, but the song gave fans something to cling onto, since the break between Reflektor and this new album is the longest in their career.

Now, it appears, that break is close to being over.

As pointed out by Stereogum, Vancouver radio station 102.7 The Peak tweeted earlier today that a new Arcade Fire single was set to drop this Friday. Within a couple of hours, the station had deleted their post, which read, “Hold onto your bobble heads, @arcadefire have promised us a new tune on Friday!”

Perhaps someone over at The Peak jumped the gun on the big reveal, or perhaps they just posted inaccurate information. Either way, we’re intrigued and hopeful.

There’s no official release date or confirmation from the band as to when their album will finally be released, except for the sporadic and vague tweets stating that “it’s coming,” so all we can do is be patient—because if we know Arcade Fire, we know that this whole record can drop at any moment—and if there’s any way to sum up 2017, it’s that it’s been one giant tease.
