The Big Lebowski Returning to Theaters Nationwide Next Month

It’s a good movie … and thorough. You can see for yourself when beloved Coen Brothers comedy The Big Lebowski returns to theaters nationwide next month, courtesy of Fathom Events, Turner Classic Movies and Universal Pictures. The film is screening as part of the yearlong TCM Big Screen Classics series.

The Big Lebowski will tie more than 600 theaters together on Sunday, Aug. 5, and Wednesday, Aug. 8, at 2 and 7 p.m. local time, all in celebration of the cult crime-comedy’s 20th anniversary. TCM Primetime’s Ben Mankiewicz will provide commentary before and after the feature, as well, if you’re into that sort of thing.

If you have yet to see The Big Lebowski, then obviously, you’re not a golfer, but we won’t harangue you for it—hopefully, your cinephile friends already have that covered. Instead, we’ll just explain the film to you as best we can, which is to say we’ll let Fathom’s press release do the heavy lifting, because boy, is this flick odd:

Beginning with a quest for a rug that has been—to put it gently—soiled, Jeff Lebowski (Jeff Bridges) and his buddy Walter Sobchek (John Goodman) take a wild trip through Los Angeles [that] embroils them in a sordid tale of greed, intrigue, bowling, White Russians, a severed toe and the other Lebowski—the big one (David Huddleston).
