The Breeders Unveil Live Video for Cover of Michael Nesmith's "Joanne"

The Breeders have released a live video for their cover of Michael Nesmith’s “Joanne.”

The video was filmed in Chicago at producer Steve Albini’s studio, Electrical Audio, where the band recorded their forthcoming album, and it features The Breeders’ Kim Deal covering the song on an acoustic guitar.

This new video comes after the announcement of their comeback album, All Nerve—the band’s first new album in 10 years—featuring new singles “Wait In The Car” and “All Nerve.”

The album will feature the band’s classic lineup of Kim and Kelley Deal, Josephine Wiggs and Jim Macpherson, who returned to the stage in 2013 to celebrate the 20th anniversary of their iconic LP, Last Splash.

At the band’s live shows, they sold several versions of “Wait In The Car” on 7” vinyl and one of them featured a cover of “Joanne.” Nesmith was a former member of The Monkees and his 1970 folk-rock single “Joanne” was his only top-40 solo single.

Also, today, The Breeders published an essay on their official website, written by famous British author Neil Gaiman, who fell into a deep love affair with the Pixies and The Breeders’ music while living in England. Gaiman wrote:

Now I’m twice the age I was when I first heard Kim Deal sing, and I live an ocean away from the English village in which I first played Pod … Music slices us in time, and I get to remember what it means to be excited by music all over again. For a start, All Nerve sounds like a Breeders album: it’s not retro, it’s not ‘90s, it just is what it is: smart rock music with a Breeders sound and an oblique Breeders point of view.
