LD Entertainment to Adapt Celeste Ng’s Novel Everything I Never Told You

LD Entertainment, the company behind Jackie, The Zookeeper’s Wife and Anthropoid, will adapt Celeste Ng’s acclaimed debut novel Everything I Never Told You. The Oscar-nominated producer of The Social Network, Captain Phillips and Moneyball, Michael De Luca, will team up with screenwriter Julia Cox to bring the novel to the screen, according to Deadline.

Ng’s novel follows a Chinese-American family who suffers a tragedy when the daughter’s body is found in the local lake. The death causes a rift in the family as the members face the consequences from secrets that must be dealt with. The novel covers issues of race, gender, family and identity, taking place in the 1970s.

Everything I Never Told You was a New York Times bestseller for 47 weeks, with 1.5 million copies sold worldwide. The 2014 novel was also Amazon’s best-selling book of the year. Ng recently published her second novel, Little Fires Everywhere, in which she tackled similar issues. The book won best work of fiction at 2017’s Goodreads Choice Awards.

Cox is currently working on the adaptation of another novel, as well: Catherine Steadman’s Something in the Water, with Reese Witherspoon producing and Fox 2000 distributing. Cox’s screenplay, Do No Harm, was bought by Paramount Pictures last year, with V for Vendetta’s Joel Silver producing.
